Brief History: [set before the Arlong Arc] Sanji was born on a ship with other chefs, it is unknown what happened to his parents. Sanji spent his time on the sea he developed the dream of finding the "All Blue" an area along the Grandline where all kinds of fish lived. The other chefs laughed at him calling it a foolish dream, Sanji refused to believe it though. One night during a storm, pirates invaded the ship, ready to steal it and take it over as their own. Sanji tried to fight back but was beaten back. When a tidal wave washed over both ships. Sanji fell overboard, Zeff (the pirate ship's captain) dove in and saved his life (sacrificing his leg in the process.) When Sanji awoke on an island with Zeff the man explained that they were the only two who survived the storm. Giving Sanji food to last for awhile, the two stayed on the island for a very long time. When they were starving and were about to go on their last legs. Sanji discovered a ship.
Zeff explained to Sanji that he had the same dream as him to find the All blue, but also to have his own restaurant at sea. Sanji vowed to help him start it, as payment for saving his life. Baratie was the name of the restarurant where Sanji was the head sou-chef. During one of their busy days, Sanji received a letter offering him a job as a chef for the school. Despite, not wanting to go, Zeff forced him to. So off he went.
