Brief History: When Gray was just a young boy, his entire family was killed by a demon called Deliora. Gray was likely the only survivor of his whole town. Afterward, he was taken in by a woman named Ur, along with her student, a boy named Lyon. It was through her that Gray learned how to use Ice Magic. After an incident with Deliora that resulted in Ur's death, Gray began to travel around Fiore, looking for the stronger wizards he had heard about through Ur. Eventually he ended up in Fairy Tail, where he spent the next ten years of his life. During that time, Gray made many friends and took on various jobs. He even met with his childhood friend and fellow student Lyon again, and unknowingly helped him find his place in a wizard's Guild just like he had.
Not long after Natsu and Mira left for some school, Gray received a letter inviting him to join as well. At first Gray didn't feel any need to go, he had better things to do then sit in a class room all day, but after some convincing from both Erza and the Guild's master, Makarov, he eventually left to join his Guildmates in Dante's Academy.
