Brief History: [Takes Place During Thieves In Time-though Spoiler Warning for those who haven't played the game ]
Tennessee "Kid Cooper" is one of Sly Cooper's great ancestors from the late-nineteenth century. Like the rest of the cooper clan, Kid Cooper was a thief stealing mainly from other thieves. However, during the time he was about to hit it big as the "best outlaw in the west" by robbing a bank. A newcomer known as Toothpick took over the town, robbing the bank and blaming the raccoon for it. The punishment for this, was hanging. When Sly and his friends came into the picture, Tenessee was a bit confused about the whole "time travel" thing but decided to believe in Sly since after their jailbreak, it proved he was a cooper after all. Thanks to Sly and the gang, Toothpick was defeated and Tennessee got his reputation back.
When Sly was captured by Le Paradox in hopes of making his family disappear for good, Tennessee Kid came back to help his relative. After returning to the old-west, the raccoon was ready for a relaxing time, when a strange letter came inviting him to an academy to teach. Confused, on just what was going on and how the letter got into the old west, Tennessee decided go. After all, the people in charge might have valuable treasure. Plus, he thought that teaching others how to shoot would be interesting.
