(September 11th, open to Derpy & Soarin'. Maybe open to other pegasai later.)
"Aw, man," Soarin' huffed. The dense pony landed harshly on the ground. Yeah he'd skipped class. Who cared? He didn't need to learn, did he? He'd be fighting. He shook her head and scoffed.
"Thirty second mile! What kind of mess is that! I gotta get myself together if I wanna do anything useful." He rolled his eyes, hooves pushing him towards the water fountain near him. He swigged down the water before sticking his head under it. Unaware that he was being approached by another class skipping someone.

Derpy actually didn't have a class at the moment. The only reason she'd made her way to the practice gymnasium was to see just what it was all about. Dopey young pegasus poked her head in and looked around, only to see an all too familiar looking pegasus in the area. Golden eyes grew wide when she saw Soarin', and for half a moment she was tempted to actually retreat. That was one of the Wonderbolts! The elite fliers of Equestria! Compared to them, Derpy was nothing more than a big old dust bunny. No, not even that. She was nothing more than dirt compared to them, right? After all, she wasn't a good flier. She was a wannabe delivery pony and had some skill with swimming and making ponies happy to a degree. Not to the same degree that Pinkie could, but still...
...No. Derpy couldn't just stand around and pretend that she hadn't seen him. Soarin' had probably seen her by that point, anyway, and she wanted to at least be nice. So she started to make herself more visible and moved into the room fully. She didn't even know what to say to him. One of the greatest fliers in Equestria surely wouldn't want to associate with a nobody like her, right? On the other hand, maybe she was jumping to conclusions. Maybe Soarin' would like her. ...Maybe.
"Hi..."
Nice start, she supposed. Derpy fiddled a little with her tie as a sheepish little smile formed on her face. He hadn't told her to get lost yet. That was good.
"That was some nice flying," Derpy said. Really? That was the best she could come up with? No wonder no one wanted anything to do with her. She was a terrible conversationalist!

He turned towards the blonde pegasus, head sopping wet with water and gave a smirk. Soarin' did like the girls. Though this one had...something off about her eyes. But he wasn't one to judge. He walked towards her, a friendly, almost dopey look on his face. He puffed his chest out proudly. "Gee, thanks a lot," he said, deflating his chest (and ego) a bit, "But not good enough. Ugh, I can't seem to make it past that 30 second point."
He turned another bright doofy smile on Derpy. "You skip class to fly around too?" Pegasus equals practice flying...right? That was what she'd be there for, he was sure! He looked her over; grey flank, blonde hair, bubbles on her rump and those...CROSSEYES! Oh that's what it was! Her eyes were all derpy and crossed! He still didn't judge. No reason to. Wasn't cool.
"I'm Soarin'," he said, despite being positive she'd know who he was, "What's your name? Are you from Cloudesdale?"

Don't just stand there, stupid! Say something! You're talking to a Wonderbolt! Wonderbolt! Soarin'! SAY YOUR NAME!
"Ah... Ah... Derpy Hooves. My name's Derpy Hooves, and yeah... I'm from Cloudsdale. But I've lived in Ponyville for a while now," Derpy finally answered. She hadn't answered his first question, though, and that wasn't something that was going to be overlooked. Was she really ditching? Not really, but Soarin' didn't need to know that. Maybe he'd think she was cooler if she made it sound like she was a rebel. On the other hand... Maybe not. Derpy was too nice to play the part of a rebel. So, with her ears drooped, she finally shook her head.
"I'm not skipping. I just don't have a class right now, so... I thought I'd come here. Maybe get in some flying practice. Not that I'm very good at it. Flying, I mean," Derpy said. Who was she kidding? Soarin' wouldn't think she was cool at all. She was only a mediocre flier at best and nowhere near good enough to catch the eye of the elite fliers of Equestria. But maybe... Maybe if she just was herself, Soarin' would like her. Not that Derpy thought it was all that likely, but it still had a slim chance for success.
"Maybe... Could we practice together? Or something?"
