Brief History: The ruler of Equestria since time immemorial, Princess Celestia initially ruled with her sister Luna after the two of them used the Elements of Harmony to defeat Discord; Celestia ruling the day, and Luna the night. Eventually, however, Luna grew jealous of how her sister’s day was praised by ponies while her own night was feared, and she transformed herself into Nightmare Moon, forcing Celestia to make the hardest decision of her life and banish her sister to the moon; for the one thousand years that followed, she ruled Equestria alone, until Luna was restored to her old self by Celestia’s student, Twilight Sparkle. The older alicorn was only too happy to welcome her little sister back to her rightful place.
At first, Celestia didn’t see any problem with allowing not only her sister, but her student and Twilight’s friends as well, to attend an academy beyond Equestria’s borders when the invitation came, believing the experience would be a valuable one for each of them. After only a week, however, she received a letter from Spike about the true nature of the school. Horrified by what she’d sent the ponies she cared about into, Celestia left Cadence in charge of Equestria and headed to the school for herself, taking on the role of a teacher as she works to put an end to this madness and protect not only the ponies close to her, but all of her subjects who had enrolled.
