Brief History: While the heroic Maximals were in pursuit of a starship belonging to the devious Predicons, who have stolen the Golden Disk, a Cybertronian relic, their ships lost use of their engines due to the battle, and crashed into an unknown alien planet. The Maximal ship (the Axalon) happened to be carrying stasis pods, which contained protoforms of other Maximals (that is, basically a base for a Transformer to be born of when it receives a proper alternate mode and live-giving Spark) - the pods were launched into space and would come down to the planet periodically. No longer being able to escape the planet, the Maximals are forced to adapt their alternate modes to that of the organic animals that live on the planet, because prolonged exposure in their robot modes causes damage and death eventually. After taking the form of a cheetah, the resident yellow kid-appeal character ingeniously renames himself Cheetor. Among the rest of the Maximal crew is Optimus Primal, Rattrap and Rhinox, who take the forms of a gorilla, rat and rhino respectively. To show off, Cheetor runs off to race some real cheetahs. Leaving the other Maximals behind, his feline friends are scared off by one of the Predicons, Waspinator. Cheetor gets into some trouble with the wasp bot before the other Maximals arrive. The other Predicons arrive too, headed by Megatron, a tyrannosaurus rex. Megatron insists that, even on the unknown planet, he will continue his pursuit of the energy source, Energon, to power his quest for galactic conquest. The Predicons and Maximals transform into their robot modes and Megatron orders an attack. The Maximals manage to escape, only to be halted by a dejected member of the Predicons, a velociraptor named Dinobot, who stands between them and their crashed ship.
Dinobot wants a fight with Optimus Primal for leadership over the Maximals. Cheetor is eager to take care of the raptor himself, but Primal must fight him alone. During the battle, Megatron and the other Predicons arrive, and gleefully open fire on them. After Rhinox saves Dinobot and Optimus from falling, the Predicons chase after them, but they make is across the stone bridge in time. Their attentions are drawn to a mountain that some of the missiles have struck, revealing that the mountain was full of the volatile Energon crystals the Predicons seek. The Predicons race for the mountain. Dinobot comes along with the Maximals in their pursuit to stop them. Once arriving to the mountain, the energy surrounding them forces them to stay in their beast modes - as it would damage their robot modes. The Maximals and Predicons tear each other apart in their beast modes. But Megatron, desperate to win, turns into his robot mode in order to fire a missile. Optimus is saved by Dinobot, who knocks the missile away. However, it strikes the volatile crystals and both sides flee before the mountain explodes. Optimus Primal announces that the Beast Wars have begun.
During ongoing conflict with the evil Predicons, Cheetor suddenly finds himself confronted with a bit of parchment addressed to him. The cheetah bot figures it sounded like a bit of fun and on impulse decided to investigate. Cheetor only had the intention of checking out the place, but never realized that escape wouldn't be possible. He is usually seen in his less conspicuous beast form, although this is not so much to blend in, but more because no one's told him that there wasn't the risk of Energon buildup there.
