Age: About 19, in human terms
Skills: Innate cunning; can be a fierce fighter when need arises
Weaknesses: Not vastly strong – he couldn’t hold his own in a prolonged fight.
Friends: Copper
Family: Big Mama (more or less adopted mother), Vixey (girlfriend)
Enemies: Old Chief
Brief History:Raised most of his life by on old widow lady after his mother was killed when he was just a kit and overseen by Big Mama the owl, Tod grew into quite an unusual fox. For one thing, he had little idea of how to fend for himself in the real world – and for another, he had managed to befriend one of his natural enemies, Copper; the hound pup of the hunter living next door. This friendship persisted until Slade took his older dog and Copper away for the winter of a hunting trip.
Tod’s life took an unforeseen turn when they got back. Now almost fully grown, Tod snuck into Slade’s yard to try and rekindle his friendship with Copper; unsuccessfully. In the commotion that followed, Tod got blamed for almost killing Chief and both Slade and Copper swore revenge on him. For his own safety, Widow Tweed took him to the nearest Game Preserve and left him there.
Of course, the Preserve didn’t remain safe for long. Realising what his neighbour had done, Slade and Copper broke into the Preserve with every intention of killing Tod; and it was only when Tod saved them from a bear Slade had disturbed that Copper had a change of heart and protected an injured Tod from his master.
It was a couple weeks after this that Tod, to his surprise, found a letter addressed to him at the entrance to his and Vixey’s burrow; an invitation to a school. While the fox’s better judgement argued that he’d had enough of humans to last him a lifetime, Tod’s curiosity won out and he decided to attend.
